This Weekend’s Activities for Mom and Family: September 22-24

Friday, September 22

Mom’s Night Out – Oh how we’ve missed his witty humor from the days of the Dave Chapelle Show.  Dave Chapelle is on tour and will perform at the Warner Theatre for two weeks, September 19-30.

Mom’s Health – Free outdoor fitness classes designed to tone the whole body will be given at John Carlyle Square Park, September 15 – October 6.  The class is scheduled from 12pm – 1pm and allows for the busy mom to workout during lunch.

Mom and Family Fun – Experience Selma on the big screen at the Kennedy Center with Jason Moran and a full orchestra performing live.   The show, Selma: A Film and Live Music Event with the NSO and Jason Moran will include a post-show panel discussion with Congressman John Lewis, Ava DuVernay (Selma Director), Jason Moran (film score composer) and many more.

Saturday, September 23 

Mom and Family Fun – The Occoquan Arts and Crafts Show is an outdoor street festival located in the quaint city of Occoquan.  The show features artisans and crafters from all over the country and features live entertainment, food and interactive activities.  The Occoquan Arts and Crafts Show is September 23-24.

Mom and Family FunPoplar Forest is hosting African-American Family History Day from 10am – 3pm. Through a series of panel discussions, the program explores ancestry and shares ways to trace the lineage of enslaved communities.  Registration is required and admission is free.

Sunday, September 24

Mom’s Health – Restorative workouts to slow your ind and body will be held at John Carlyle Square Park, September 17 – October 8.  The morning exercise is scheduled from 9:30am – 10:30am and is a great way for the busy mom to start the day.

Mom and Family Fun – Through October, enjoy a miniature golf course designed and built by local artists.  At Penn Hill Mini Golf, families can participate in miniature gold, enjoy food from local food trucks and play fun games on the lawn.  Miniature golf at Penn Hill is available Saturday from 12pm – 7pm and Sunday from 12pm – 6pm
